It is with pleasure that we confirm the appointment of Del Woodford in the refined role of Programmes and Events Manager at the Avantidrome, starting 8th January 2018.
Read Del’s story below…
I’ve had a passion for sports, especially cycling most of my life, firstly as a competitive rider where I was fortunate enough to have represented NZ at schoolboy, junior and senior levels and raced both road and track throughout Australasia & Europe.
I was lucky during my career to have had great coaches and it was their passion for coaching that encouraged me to start coaching in the early nineties, firstly by helping my club mates improve their cycling, through to helping individuals achieve their goals of riding at international level and in recent years helping schools develop their cycling programmes.
My other passion is sports broadcasting and commentating and I have been fortunate to work for some big events like the Rally of NZ, International Speedway, Football and of course cycling events from MTB & Track World Cups to the Tour Down Under, Tour de France & the Belgium Classics for Sky Sports, Radio Sport and Track Side Radio along with commentating many events live.
Much of my working life has also involved cycling having worked extensively across the industry in wholesale, franchise management, retail management and ownership, sales, product and bike fit training. I have been lucky to have worked for industry leaders like W H Worrall, Sheppard Cycles Avanti & Scott bicycles & Dialed in Motion Bike Fit Systems.
I’m really excited to join the Avantidrome team as it approaches its fourth year of operation, to have the opportunity to continue the facility’s growth across the community and region, and to encourage the continued growth of the school cycling programs and cycling for the general public as a great way of improving fitness and wellbeing by riding on a world class indoor velodrome.
It is a privilege to be joining a quality team of part time coaches and a large volunteer base that continues to support the Avantidrome operations on a day to day basis. .
Looking forward to seeing you all trackside soon!
