April 2019 School Holiday Sessions

This April school holidays we’ll be running our popular holiday sessions once again with a whole lot more for you to choose from! There are sessions for complete beginners right through to blocks of training for the more experienced as well as special sessions with some of New Zealand’s high performance coaches and athletes.

A minimum of 5 riders is required to run each session.

Please note: Children must be 135 m in height and at least 9 years old to ride the track at the Avantidrome.

Junior Have-a-Go 

A chance to come and try the track under the supervision of one of our experienced coaches. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

When: Tuesday 23rd April; 10 – 11:30am

Who should attend: For non-accredited kids – bet suited to first timers

Cost: $25 per person – includes coach, helmet and hire bike

Please Bring:

  • T-shirt or top that has sleeves which cover your shoulders (no singlets please)
  • Comfortable shorts or tights. Bike pants are a good idea if you have them, but not required
  • Covered shoes, suitable for riding
  • Water bottle (yes, it is thirsty work!)
  • Please remove jewellery and watches before you take to the track

 


Learn to Ride – 4 day block

Our Learn to Ride programme is where kids start their track cycling journey. Here they will be coached towards becoming competent to ride on the velodrome.

When: Monday 15th April to Thursday 18th April; 4pm – 5:30pm

Who should attend: This programme is for non-accredited kids, starting out with track riding

Cost: $60 per person  – includes coaching, helmet and hire bike

Please Note:

  1. You must book and pay for all 4 days of the programme. Sorry, roll up and ride not allowed
  2. Ensure riders are wearing tops that cover their shoulders, singlets are not permitted
  3. Please note, participation in this programme does not guarantee that the riders will become competent to ride the track. We will do everything to try to make this possible but sometimes it just takes longer for different people and is dependent on the individual’s skill, confidence and fitness level

 


Junior Fitness – 2 hours

A two hour coached fitness session for accredited riders of all abilities.

When:

Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th April; 4-6pm

Who should attend: These sessions are suitable for accredited riders only

Cost: $20 per person; or

$25 per person if a hire bike is required

 


Junior Sprint Session – 2 hours

A two hour sprint session for juniors with NZ Elite Sprinter Olivia Podmore (2016 Rio Olympian). This will be an awesome opportunity to learn from one of the pros. Olivia will give you tips on how to improve your sprinting – definitely not to be missed.

Book ahead to avoid disappointment!

When: Wednesday 24th April; 10am – 12pm

Who should attend: Suitable for accredited riders up to the age of 19

Cost: $20 per person; or

$25 per person if a hire bike is required

 


Junior School of Track – 3 hours

A fun session with NZ Elite Sprinter Emma Cummings (2018 Commonwealth Games medalist) and Team GB rider Mark Stewart (Commonwealth Games and World Championship medalist) where we will be running races, games and exercises on AND off the track. Designed to be fun but will also help to improve your overall track knowledge and experience. This is going to be epic!!

Book ahead to avoid disappointment!

When: Thursday 18th April; 9:30am – 12:30pm

Who should attend: Suitable for accredited riders aged under 15

Cost: $30 per person – this includes hire bike if required

Please Note:

Riders are requested to bring trainers along as well as their cycling shoes (if they have them) please

 


Junior Specialist Holiday Block – 3 day block

A 3 day block of sessions where we will look at different skills each day to improve your track riding and racing experience. This is a fabulous opportunity to get some high level coaching with some of the best coaches in the country

Day 1 will include race craft discussion and practice with Alex Greenfield, the Elite Women’s Endurance Team Coach from Cycling New Zealand.

Day 2 will include a Derny session with Tim Carswell the Waikato BoP Performance Hub Head Coach.

Day 3 will include gate starts and timed efforts to pit yourself against your peers (with some special guest coaches).

When: Monday 15th April to Wednesday 17th April; 10am – 12pm

Who should attend: This block is for accredited riders only (ideally aged between 13 – 17 years) .

Cost: $60 per person; or

$75 per person if a hire bike is required
